British
painter John Bawtree qualified as an architect before deciding to pursue
the life of a full-time artist. He received a GREENSHIELD
FOUNDATION AWARD in 1978, when he held his first London exhibition.
He has travelled extensively and has since had over forty one-man
exhibitions as well as diversifying into occasional architectural work,
murals and illustration for TV. His most successful recent
exhibitions were at The Aldeburgh Cinema Gallery; the British Embassy,
Oman; Melitensia Gallery, Malta and Piers Feetham Gallery, London.
He has work in private collections
in England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Sudan,
Oman, Dubai, Canada, Mexico and the USA. John Bawtree is delighted
to receive commissions. Past commissions include a set of
commemorative paintings of the old British Embassy in Oman for the
Foreign and Commonwealth Office and he was commissioned by Devonport
dockyard to paint the ex-royal yacht Britannia. His most recent
commission was a set of watercolours of
Oman for the Mathaf Gallery in
Knightsbridge.
In the past his most prolific source of work has been the ANZ Grindlays
bank for whom he has produced sixty five paintings for reproduction in
calendars; and Gulf Greetings in Dubai who started a heritage series of
cards with three dozen of his paintings of the United Arab Emirates. In January 2005 his
work was sold for the first time at auction at Christies in South
Kensington. |
