In 2004 John became
entangled in a battle with the Land Registry over title to his house and
garden. This became increasingly time consuming and resulted in his
spending most of 2006 on an enforced sabbatical so he could concentrate on the
case; though he did contribute to exhibitions both locally and in London
and as an evasion tactic spent June and July in the Massif Central.
The case
went to court in November and was resolved entirely in
his favour. |

An exhibition of recent paintings by John Bawtree |
| February |
John is just back from Carcassonne where he was doing a recce of
subjects in the Gorges du Tarn. He also drove over Sir Norman
Foster's new
bridge in the clouds at Millau.
John Bawtree at
Christie's yet again! Two water colours will be
a single lot
115 titled ''20th Century
Ruins" on
23 March. The paintings are Buraimi Ruins and Jerash Columns. |
| January |
A rare opportunity to get a bargain Bawtree 10:30am Wednesday 19th
January when
his
painting Cantab Bay, Oman will be auctioned
at
Christie's, South Kensington lot 31 Sale 5580. The painting has been
previously exhibited at the
Mathaf Gallery and is from the private collection of Susan Andrews. |

| December |
The exhibition at Cottons Yard, Yoxford opened on the 3rd to a great
reception. Although only scheduled to last four days the showing
is to reopen on Saturday 11th December from 10-5pm and Sunday 12th only
from 10-1pm, when the shutters will come down for the last time.
John has received a commission to draw a house as a book illustration. |
| November |
Pictures for exhibition were entered at the Fry Gallery, Saffron Walden.
Normally commercially successful this year results were disappointing,
perhaps something to do with the blizzard! |
| October |
John is hatching a scheme to visit Zanzibar. Zanzibar was once part of
the Oman empire but is now in Tanzania and as it has no oil is
undeveloped and consequently very picturesque.
|
| September |
Back to the grindstone
finishing off work for Autumn exhibitions although John did managed a
week to Morayshire and was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful
weather. A highlight was flying over Loch Ness in a two-seater plane.
|
| July & August |
Hedonism has overwhelmed
John and he has holidayed much visiting friends in Gloucestershire,
Somerset, and Devon.
|
| June |
John has been painting on
Aldeburgh and Southwold beaches and executed a couple of local
commissions.
|
| May |
John
has been to Milan for a week and is preparing for four commissions in Dubai.
|
| April |
John
has arrived back safely from Cuba and his suitcase arrived a week
later. He found painting in Havana difficult as he was continually
pestered by "street people" but otherwise the trip was
rewarding.
|
| March |
Before
leaving for Cuba John has been finishing off outstanding commissions
but there's one of Aldeburgh beach which will have to wait until his
return because it has been so blisteringly cold on the beach that he
can't hold the brush steady! His most recent commission,
by a club director, is of Ipswich Town football club. In
this rendition Ipswich are in the process of hammering Norwich. As
John says "Wonderful things paintings. If you would
like to realise your dreams why not commission one."
|
| February |
John has been
working on two architectural commissions. |
